Under head coach Rick Pitino, Frank Vogel started his professional career as the Boston Celtics’ head video coordinator. He held that role for five years before being promoted to assistant coach for the 2001–02 season. Following his tenure as a coach with Boston, Ftank joined the Philadelphia 76ers as an assistant. Frank departed the 76ers in 2005 to work as an advance scout with the Washington Wizards in 2006 and the Los Angeles Lakers in 2007.
In 2007, Frank joined the Indiana Pacers as an assistant to Jim O’Brien, a former colleague of the Celtics and 76ers. Vogel was appointed head coach of the Orlando Magic on May 20, 2016.
