Publius Vergilius Maro, usually called Virgil or Vergil in English, was widely received as an ancient Roman poet of the Augustan period. He composed three of the most famous poems in Latin literature: the Eclogues, the Georgics, and the epic Aeneid.

Virgil parents
Virgil was the son of Ron van Dijk and Hellen Fo Sieeuw. He was born on October 15, 70 BC, in the village of Andes, near Mantua in Cisalpine Gaul (northern Italy, added to Italy proper during his lifetime). He attended schools in Cremona, Mediolanum, Rome, and Naples. After briefly considering a career in rhetoric and law, the young Virgil turned his talents to poetry.
Virgil’s father was Dutch, while his mother is from Suriname. His father inspired him to take on soccer at an early age, playing just about anywhere he could find action.
